Job Jobse Job Jobse – sim, é o nome verdadeiro. Começou como estagiário na Innervisions, em Berlim, mas onde é que essa época já vai? Longe. De um pequeno estagiário numa gigante editora, para manager numa editora que se agigantou – a Life and Death. Como? Vamos descobrir. Job voltou de Berlim para o país natal e estabelece-se em Amsterdão, onde no Club 11 vai ganhando calos nessa coisa de tocar discos. E eventualmente, torna-se residente do lendário (e já encerrado) Trouw. De residente, salta também para programador. Cargos de muita responsabilidade se pensarmos que o Trouw ajudou a mudar para melhor e a fazer repensar vários conceitos clubbing – tornou-se uma das mecas a visitar para os apreciadores da música electrónica de dança. E Job surge como o puro DJ sem procurar fazer música para lançar a sua carreira, antes a sustentou no puro gozo de tocar criações de outros e ir aproveitando as oportunidades de aprender com as superestrelas com quem ia convidando e partilhando cabine. Não lhe faltaram os bons mestres e aplica-se então, junto com DJ Tennis e os Tale of Us, na Life and Death, ajudando a curar a selecção musical da mesma que inclui artistas como Steve Rachmad, WhoMadeWho ou Recondite. Coisas sérias – o que esperar de Jobse na altura de nos vir encantar? Música que marca tendências, House e Techno melódicos, hipnóticos, ritmos estranhos, clássicos, coisas desconhecidas aterradas directamente do futuro, uma mistura de coisas pronta a servir de redenção a todos os que se decidirem entregar sem medos. Paciência de Jó não se aplica nesta noite – aqui, vai-se dançar com todo o prazer. - Inês Duarte Midland No ano passado deu-nos dois clássicos de pista irrepetíveis: Blush e Final Credits. Cada um deles conta uma história distinta, o primeiro um slow-burner épico e o segundo uma homenagem orgânica ao disco. Midland é assim tão camaleónico desde 2010, quando lançou o seu primeiro disco na Aus Music em colaboração com Pearson Sound (então Ramadanman) - desde então fez muita música a solo, mas também discos a meias com artistas tão inventivos como Pariah e Bicep, afinando o seu toque como produtor à medida que desenvolvia uma agilidade incrível nos pratos. Hoje é um DJ de house que nunca perde de vista as matrizes igualmente dançáveis do techno, disco, e, claro, o som rave da sua Inglaterra. Opera desde Londres mas cresceu na Tanzânia e passou por Leeds para estudar, onde vivia na Midland road, que lhe emprestou o seu nome de artista. É inegável que terá esta sido uma altura formativa para o seu futuro como um dos principais actores da música de dança global da década que corre: Leeds é conhecida pelas suas festas e Midland sabe muito bem como começar uma. Já levou as suas DJ skills a cabines tão lendárias como o Trouw de Amsterdão, O Panorama Bar em Berlim ou o Fabric em Londres. Visto como um escultor de som firmemente lançado, já se sentou na cadeira de remisturador para editoras vitais como a Warp, a Autonomous Africa ou a Phonica. Em 2013 criou os seus próprios selos Graded e Regraded e no ano passado fundou com Robert Redway os AKASE, um projecto de pop electrónica que rapidamente foi assinado pela icónica !K7 de Berlim. 2017 tem sido o ano de Midland, e nós mal podemos esperar por ouvi-lo na nave-mãe de Santa Apolónia. - Inês Coutinho \\ ENGLISH // Job Jobse Job Jobse – yep, that’s his real name. He started out as an intern at Innervisions, but where did the time go already? From a small intern on a giant label to label manager on a label that’s getting bigger and bigger, Life and Death. How? Let’s find out. Job returned to his home country and settled in Amsterdam, where he learned his craft at Club 11. From there, he jumped on to legendary club Trouw (unfortunately permanently closed now) and became a resident DJ, and then the programmer. A position of high responsibility if we think Trouw helped re-shape ideas about clubbing and became one of the meccas to be visited by electronic music lovers all around the globe. And Job shows up as this DJ that doesn’t rely on music making to help his career, in fact he doesn’t have any releases at all, instead focusing on the art of playing others’ tracks and learning from his superstar peers. He didn’t lack good teachers and eventually found himself being the label manager for Life and Death along with DJ Tennis and Tales of Us, helping curate its musical selection, one that includes artists such as Steve Rachmad, WhoMadeWho or Recondite. Now, what can we expect of Jobse when it’s his turn to try and enchant us? House & Techno that are trend-setting, melodic, hypnotic, perhaps with weird rhythms, or already classic tracks, or some futuristic sounds directly from the future: a mix of tracks ready to be the redemption of all willing clubbers. The concept of “Job’s patience” won’t be needed for the night – plenty of willing dancers expected! - Inês Duarte Midland Last year he gave us two incomparable club classics: Blush and Final Credits. Each one of them tells a distinct story, the first is an epic slow-burner and the latter, an organic ode to disco. Midland has been this chameleonic since 2010, when his first record, a collaboration with Pearson Sound (then Ramadanman) was released - since then he's put out plenty of solo music, but also collaborative efforts with the likes of inventive artists like Pariah and Bicep, cutting his teeth as a producer while developing an incredible agility in the decks. Today he is a house DJ that never loses sight of the equally danceable patterns of techno, disco and his UK rave sound. He operates from London but grew up in Tanzania and studied in leeds, where he lived in Midland road, which lended him his artist name. It's undeniable that this will have been a formative time for his future as one of the main players in this decade's global dance music arena: Leeds is known for its parties and Midland sure knows how to start one. He's taken his DJ skills to legendary booths like Amsterdam's Trouw, Berlin's Panorama Bar or London's Fabric. Seen as a firmly rooted sound sculptor, he has remixed for vital labels like Warp, Autonomous Africa and Phonica. In 2013 he created his own labels Graded and Regraded and last year he started, alongside Robert Redway, AKASE, an electronic pop project that was quickly signed to iconic Berlin label !K7. 2017 has been Midland's year, and we can barely wait to hear him in the Santa Apolónia mothership. - Inês Coutinho
